See For Yourself Why LMCU Ballpark is a Popular Grand Rapids Event Venue

LMCU Ballpark is well acquainted with the logistics required to juggle thousands of people driving hundreds of cars making dozens of different requests. After all, the facility staff performs these duties more than 60 times each summer during West Michigan Whitecaps home games.

It’s one of the reasons why LMCU Ballpark is such a popular Grand Rapids event venue. Baseball fans love to hear crack of the bat, smell fresh popcorn, and watch Saturday night fireworks shows.

A happy fan enjoys a Whitecaps game in the summer sun.

Of course, LMCU Ballpark is much more than just a minor league baseball facility. Each year, West Michigan’s largest outdoor event space also serves as a graduation venue for area high schools, colleges, and universities. And as trade show and conference venue for local businesses and organizations. And as a carnival and fair venue. And more.

In fact, LMCU Ballpark can even host all of those events at the same time.

For example, that will be the case during the week of May 16, 2022, when LMCU Ballpark will have the opportunity to simultaneously hold the following events over the course a seven-day span:

  • Three high school commencement ceremonies
  • One carnival
  • One business show
  • One high school baseball game

“It’s never boring at LMCU Ballpark!” Special Events Manager April Butler said. “You might find Mike (Klint, Facility Events Manager) attending to a high school game or a carnival in the parking lot, while Chelsea (VanderWal, Special Events Coordinator) is taking care of a meeting in the Stadium Club, and I’m wrangling in the logistics of a company picnic.

“The Whitecaps are a team, both on and off the field, and so is our staff. When it comes to special events, we are experts in all types of events and creating memorable, turnkey experiences for our guests.”

The Whitecaps are far from the only sports team that gets to take the field at LMCU Ballpark. LMCU Ballpark is Versatile Enough to Serve as Both a Conference and Carnival Venue

The West Michigan Whitecaps, who are the High-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, regularly play their homes games in front of thousands of fans at LMCU Ballpark. And during your average baseball season, the Whitecaps will be scheduled to play in front of their home fans exactly 66 times, not including postseason games.

That also means that there are nearly 300 days when LMCU ballpark ISN’T hosting a Whitecaps matchup. Did you ever wonder what goes on at LMCU Ballpark on those dates? (Spoiler alert: It’s a lot.)

More importantly, did you ever wonder how you could take advantage of West Michigan’s largest outdoor multipurpose event venue?

Because while thousands enjoy the roaring crowds, towering home runs, and spectacular fireworks shows at Whitecaps games each summer, LMCU Ballpark is so much more than just a baseball venue.

Festival returns to LMCU Ballpark after canceling event due to COVID in 2020

Grand Rapids is bringing back the Taco and Tequila festival to LMCU ballpark on May 7, 2022. The previous event was canceled in 2020 due to COVID 19 restrictions with a scaled back private event later that fall. The previous event sold out after only two weeks of ticket sales and the 2022 version sold out just as fast!

The event will be hosted by Outlier Events and the West Michigan Whitecaps. Outlier Events also hosts a number of other popular events across the country including Donut and Beer Fest, and Michigan’s Mac and Cheese Festival.

The event is a celebration of Michigan’s best tacos, tequila and all things tasty. Taco & Tequila Fest will feature Mexican cuisine sampling, unique tequila selections from around the world and decadent mixed drinks from local vendors along with international beer and dessert sampling. The event also brings in mariachi bands, games and other entertainment elements to the ballpark.

Outlier Events are hosting the festival in partnership with the West Michigan Whitecaps and the Whitecaps Community Foundation, to bring exciting and safe events to the community for both local residents and out of town visitors to enjoy.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring this event back to this community. This event has sold out every year, but we were blown away by how Grand Rapids responded in 2020. We can’t wait to finally bring this fest to life this May.” said festival founder Brian Colopy.

While guests explore the countless food and beverage options, there will also be live music, yard games, inflatables, and of course, Lucha Libre Wrestling. Through a People’s Choice vote, attendees will crown the best taco vendor at the event.

All ages are welcome to attend Taco & Tequila Fest, and children 3 and under have free admission with an adult. Ticket options include a $53 VIP admission with 1 hour early entry in addition to 5 taco samples and 10 tequila or mixed drink samples and a $38 general admission option with 3 taco samples and 5 tequila or mixed drink samples of your choosing.
